MaskUp is a web app designed to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus and collect COVID-19 data. Using both live and photo detection, MaskUp can tell whether a person is responsibly wearing a mask or not. MaskUp could be used in public spaces worldwide to only allow entry to those who are wearing face masks. For example, the success message could set off a trigger, allowing a door to open.
Additionally, MaskUp allows you to track and save your symptoms based on when you experienced them. You can take notes on how you're feeling, as well as log your specific symptoms. Whether it's a medical emergency or a health checkup, you can open MaskUp and let your doctor have a better understanding of your situation for a more accurate diagnosis.
198.6 million: the number of COVID-19 cases thus far.
4.2 million: the appalling worldwide
death toll due to COVID-19.
Social distancing and mask-wearing mandates have slackened. When going out for groceries, we observe more
and more people ditching their masks because they've "gotten the vaccines already" or because they have "the
right to breathe". However, what they don't see are the daunting numbers of people who end up hospitalized,
even after getting their vaccines. Furthermore, masks protect everybody from all kinds of airborne diseases,
including the common cold, chickenpox, measles, tuberculosis, and pneumonia. MaskUp was created so that
those who neglect their masks can be highlighted and reminded to keep their masks on.
MaskUp was created in Summer 2021
High School Junior
Hi there! I'm Ganning, a junior at North Carolina's School of Science and Math. I created MaskUp as a way to streamline mask detection, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
High School Junior
Hello! I'm Elise, a junior at Largo High School. My brother is a General Surgery resident who receives overwhelming numbers of COVID-19 patients that end up in the ICU. A vast majority are people who refuse to wear masks on their outings and refuse to have their vaccines, but soon regret their decisions. MaskUp will help minimize the number of people who disregard their masks, as well as remind users to get their vaccines!
